Daniel Kofi Kyereh has placed Andre Ayew ahead of some of Ghana’s most celebrated midfielders, including Michael Essien and Stephen Appiah, during a blind-ranking exercise.
The Freiburg midfielder made the selections in an interview with Joy Sports, where he was tasked with ordering a mix of past and present Black Stars midfielders without knowing who would come next.
In the same interview, Kyereh named Andre Ayew as his childhood hero who shaped his early Black Stars career.
Despite the challenge, Kyereh ultimately ranked Ayew above a distinguished group that featured some of the country’s finest talents.
The list included the likes of Thomas Partey, Sulley Muntari, Kwadwo Asamoah, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Anthony Annan and Mubarak Wakaso, alongside Kyereh himself.
Ayew’s top placement reflects the high regard Kyereh holds for the former Black Stars captain, whose influence on the national team has spanned more than a decade - being Ghana's most capped player in history.
While blind rankings often produce unpredictable outcomes, Kyereh’s decision to place Ayew above Essien and Appiah is likely to spark debate among fans, given the latter duo’s status as icons of Ghana’s golden generation.
