The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has handed Carlos Queiroz a short-term mandate to lead the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with details of his appointment beginning to emerge.
The Portuguese tactician is understood to have signed a four-month contract, with a reported monthly salary of around $100,000. The deal is expected to be reviewed after the World Cup, leaving room for a longer-term decision depending on Ghana’s performance.
Queiroz’s appointment comes at a critical time, with the GFA prioritising experience and stability following a difficult period for the national team. His ability to manage teams in transition and build resilient, organised sides is said to have played a key role in his selection.
He edged out several high-profile candidates, with the association placing its trust in his calm authority and tactical discipline to steady the Black Stars ahead of the tournament.
Ghana will become the fifth team Queiroz leads to the World Cup, following spells with Portugal and Iran across multiple editions of the tournament.
With limited time to prepare, the focus now shifts to how quickly he can impose structure and belief within the squad.
Ghana face a tough group against England, Croatia and Panama, with expectations high as the Black Stars aim to make a stronger impact on the world stage.
