Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has revealed that former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo was blindsided by his dismissal following Ghana’s recent friendly against Germany.
Speaking on the sudden technical shake-up, Adams disclosed that Addo entered his final meeting with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) expecting to discuss tactical adjustments, not his termination.
According to the Minister, the timing of the decision on March 31, 2026, caught the coach off guard because he had already navigated more turbulent periods, including the team’s failure to qualify for AFCON 2025.
The axe fell just 72 days before Ghana’s 2026 World Cup opener against Panama, following a narrow 2-1 loss to the Germans.
“After the match against Germany, the coach was preparing for that meeting, so he was not preparing for his sack,” he told the KSM Show.
“He thought that if he was going to be sacked, it should have happened much earlier because he had seen the worst.”
Kofi Adams confirmed that the search for a successor is moving rapidly to ensure stability.
With high-profile names like Carlos Queiroz and Slaven Bilic linked to the vacancy, a new appointment is expected by the end of the week.
