Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential aspirant Amanda Clinton has called on the Ghana Football Association to consider experienced Portuguese tactician Fernando Santos for the vacant Black Stars head coach position.
The Ghanaian football governing body is expected to name a new head coach in the coming days following the dismissal of Otto Addo after the March international break.
His departure came in the wake of Ghana’s heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria and a 2-1 loss to Germany in a series of pre-World Cup friendly matches.
Several high-profile names have been linked to the role, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, Tom Saintfiet and Slaven Bilić, as the search for a new leader intensifies.
Speaking in an interview with Citi Sports, Clinton expressed strong support for Santos, describing him as the most suitable candidate to steer the national team forward. She pointed to his experience and success at the highest level of international football.
“The Black Stars will do very well if we get a good coach like Santos, who led Portugal to great success, so if we get a good coach and excellent people on the team,…of course, we can win," she said.
Santos enjoyed a highly decorated spell in management, guiding FC Porto to domestic success before leading Portugal national football team to victory at the 2016 UEFA European Championship and the UEFA Nations League.
Meanwhile, the Ghana FA is expected to finalise and announce a new head coach this week as preparations continue for upcoming international fixtures. The Black Stars are scheduled to regroup in May for a friendly against Mexico before facing Wales on June 2.
Ghana, represented by the Ghana national football team, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
