Major League Soccer side Nashville SC have included Ghanaian players Maxwell Woledzi and Shakur Mohammed in their official pre-season roster as the club prepares for the start of the 2026 campaign.
Defender Maxwell Woledzi, 24, and midfielder Shakur Mohammed, 22, were set to feature in a recent friendly against Birmingham Legion FC, but the match was postponed due to inclement weather. The pair will now aim to get their first minutes for Nashville in an upcoming friendly against Orlando SC on Saturday, February 7.
This pre-season period is crucial for Nashville as they build towards their competitive opener: a CONCACAF Champions Cup fixture against Ottawa on Wednesday, February 18.
Both players represent significant off-season acquisitions for the club. Shakur Mohammed joins from fellow MLS side Orlando City, where he was drafted second overall in 2023.
Despite the high expectations, his three-year stint was marked by frustration and limited opportunities, making his move to Nashville a fresh start to revive his promising career.
Maxwell Woledzi arrives with a strong European pedigree, having signed from Danish club Fredrikstad FK on a four-year deal with a club option for the final year. The 24-year-old centre-back excelled in Denmark, earning the club's Player of the Year award for his performances before making the transatlantic move.
Their inclusion in the pre-season squad marks the first step in integrating the Ghanaian duo into Head Coach Gary Smith's plans, as Nashville SC aims to strengthen its squad for challenges in both domestic and continental competitions.
