Some New Patriotic Party (NPP) bigwigs on Wednesday were nearly thrown out of the Manhyia Palace when the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II got angry during their visit.
They had to kneel down to beg the Asantehene to calm tempers down after he had raised concerns that some government appointees were pitching him against the Akyems in the Eastern region.
Otumfuo who was not enthused by the comments made against him by some members of NPP asked them to leave his palace.
Sources at Manhyia say some NPP members alleged that the Otumfuo supported Asare Bediako the close contender of the current Ashanti regional chairman of NPP Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly called ‘ Chairman Wontumi’ who stepped down during the party’s regional elections.
It took the intervention of a linguist to the Asantehene, Baffour Kantankrakyie to plead on behalf of the NPP executives, where they later pledged to solve his grievances with the party.
The Ashanti region happens to be the stronghold of the NPP.
The NPP executives were led by acting General Secretary John Boadu, Regional Minister Simon Osei- Mensah, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako and Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Kwabena Senkyire.
