It has been revealed that Ghanaian footballer Hans Kwofie was due to travel to Germany to finalise a transfer deal before losing his life in a car accident.
According to journalist Collins Atta Poku, the striker was supposed to leave the country in the first week of July.
He further disclosed that Kwofie’s friend Gideon, who was in the car with the footballer and whose wedding was scheduled for the following day, also died in the car crash.
“Hans Kwofie was due to leave for Germany in the first week of July. The friend he was with when the accident happened is getting married tomorrow & now they don’t know how to tell the would-be bride,” Atta Poku wrote on X.
Ghana football has been in a state of mourning after Kwofie tragically lost his life after being involved in a deadly car accident.
The 35-year-old is said to have met his untimely death on Friday, June 21, 2024, after his car crashed at Dadwen in the Ashanti Region.
Reports suggest Kwofie was on his way to his hometown of Dompim Pepesa when the unfortunate incident happened.
Kwofie was a household name in the Ghana Premier League, having lined up for Heart of Lions, Medeama SC, Bechem United and Ashanti Gold.
He was also recently on the books of Ghanaian clubs Legon Cities and Aduana Stars before joining Nepal side Birgunj United FC in 2023.
Kwofie is fondly remembered for emerging as the top scorer in the Ghana Premier League in the 2017/18 season after scoring 17 goals for Ashanti Gold.
