A private security man was shot dead, while another person suffered gunshot wounds after armed robbers attacked a fuel station in Koforidua, the capital town of Eastern Region, on Monday.
The armed robbers were said to have attempted to rob workers of the Total ‘5’ Fuel Station, opposite the All Nations University campus on the Akwadum road at about 8pm.
However, the security man, whose identity has not been disclosed, struggled with the robbers and in course of the tussle, the assailants hit the victim with a stick and also shot him.
The robbers were said to have bolted after shooting another worker at the fuel station.
The body of the private security guard has been deposited at the morgue of the Eastern Regional Hospital for autopsy, while the injured has been rushed to the same hospital to receive treatment.
The Effiduase Police Command was said to have received a distress call at about 8:45pm from an unknown caller, who reported the incident to the police.
The armed robbers escaped before the Effiduase Police night patrol team got to the scene.
The police said the private security man was found with gunshot woundsand taken to the Eastern Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, while the other injured worker was rushed to same hospital for treatment.
The Effiduase Police Command said it has commenced investigations into the incident.
