The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has commenced a late night Value Added Tax (VAT) enforcement exercise to enhance VAT compliance.
“We have commenced night market compliant checks. Most of the businesses that operate within that period do not report sales, hence the state is losing out on the taxes to be collected. The taskforce is on the ground to rectify this,” Assistant Commissioner Joseph Annan, Manager of the Accra Central Area Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), said.
He was speaking in Accra on Friday when the VAT Enforcement Taskforce of the Authority arrested five business operators for various tax infractions.
Operators of Aqua Scape Limited, 69 Bridge Enterprise and Aqua Profesisonals, all at East Legon in Accra were arrested for issuing their own invoices while Dorkley Company Limited and Rozzy’s Collection, also both at East Legon had not registered for VAT. Assistant Commissioner Annan said the actions of the operators, he said, was in violation of section 41 of the VAT Act which mandates a registered business to issue VAT invoice at all time.
