National Security Operatives and other law enforcement agencies have apprehended eight Chinese nationals and a Ghanaian, in connection with the missing consignments of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Also, the security agencies have traced and found 40 of the 1,350 missing ECG containers in a warehouse at Kpone, near Tema.

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, who disclosed the retrieval of the 40 containers on Thursday, March 27, 2025 indicated that he was briefed that the warehouse belonged to an Indian man.
According to the minister, the Indian stated that those containers originally owned by the ECG were sold to him in 2024.
Indicating that the 40 containers found had been confiscated, Minister Jinapor also said they are the subject matter of investigation.

“They’ve traced about 40 of them [the 1,350 missing ECG containers] to a particular warehouse in Kpone, which belongs to an Indian man, and they’ve confiscated all the 40 and they are moving to a secured location. The man indicates that those containers were sold to him last year and so that’s a matter of investigation and the law enforcement agencies would ensure that the law takes its course,” he said.
The minister revealed that intelligence was leading to some other areas that they will trace to retrieve all the containers.
Beyond the retrieval, the minister noted perpetrators would be arraigned to face the full rigours of the law, but cautioned against people equating the exercise with witch-hunting of culprits.
“Let me just sound that when we start prosecuting these people, let nobody come to say we are witch-hunting. These are properties of the states; every legitimate and legal means to ensure that we retrieve them and to hold all those behind the crime, and so we’ll continue to work hard and ensure that we retrieve all these containers,” he said.
8 ARRESTS
At press time last night, news broke of the arrest of eight Chinese nationals and a Ghanaian for their alleged involvement in the missing ECG containers.
According to a 3news.com report, operatives of the National Security followed intelligence which led them to an aluminium smelter owned by the Chinese at Shai Hills.
The arrest of the eight in the evening of Thursday followed the announcement by the Minister for Energy that 40 of the missing consignments have been traced to Kpone, with an Indian man, who was arrested, claiming that they were sold to him last year.
MISSING
Earlier this week, the minister revealed that he had received a 103-page report from the committee established to investigate about 2,500 ECG containers stuck at the Tema harbour.
He said the findings from the committee’s report revealed that over 1350 of the containers were missing from the Tema port.
MINISTER’S FACT
The minister on his Facebook page gave what he titled ‘facts about the missing ECG containers.

He said that during the transition period, the NPP administration disclosed that approximately 3,000 ECG containers were being held at the Tema Harbour, due to the inability of ECG to clear them.
“However, upon assuming office, I visited the Tema Harbour and was presented with a different figure of 2,500 containers, which had incurred demurrage cost of GH¢1,500,000,000.
The discrepancy in these figures prompted me to establish an investigative committee to verify the circumstances surrounding the containers.”
He continued that “the committee’s report, which was presented to me, confirmed that over 1,300 containers were indeed missing – contrary to the narrative given by the previous administration.
“As a result, criminal investigations will be launched immediately, and those responsible will undoubtedly be prosecuted. Government remains committed to ensuring that such irregularities do not go unpunished.”
