Ghana defender Nathaniel Adjei made a strong impression on his first start of the season for FC Lorient, playing a key role as his side earned a share of the spoils against FC Metz in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday afternoon.
Returning from a lengthy injury layoff, the 23-year-old centre-back was named in the starting lineup and completed the full 90 minutes as Lorient fought hard to earn a point in a tightly contested encounter.
The Stade du Moustoir fell into stunned silence when FC Metz took the lead in the 29th minute, as Sadibou Sané powered a close-range header home from Gauthier Hein’s perfectly delivered corner.
FC Lorient drew level later in the second half when Bamba Dieng calmly fired a left-footed effort from the centre of the box into the bottom-left corner, with Mohamed Bamba providing the assist.
The Orange lads pushed relentlessly in search of a winning goal, mounting several attacks against Metz, but the visitors held firm to ensure the points were shared at full time.
The result left FC Lorient in 12th place with 19 points from 17 matches.
Adjei’s assured performance will come as a major boost for head coach Olivier Pantaloni and his squad, as they can now rely on the versatile Ghanaian defender for the remainder of the campaign.
He is expected to retain his place in the team for Lorient in their French League Cup against Hauts Lyonnaise on January 10, 2026.
