Two-tier Flowerpot interchange officially commissioned  

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has commissioned the two-tier flowerpot interchange project in Accra.

The interchange, redesigned roundabouts and the elevated north-south flyover linking Burma Camp By-pass to Boundary Road were commissioned yesterday.

Addressing the gathering at the commissioning, President Akufo-Addo said “This interchange is a clear, tangible example of our promise to ensure that every Ghanaian feels the positive impact of our governance.”

REAFFIRM

President Akufo-Addo said that the interchange reaffirmed the commitment of the government to progress is more than “rhetoric, it is action built in stone and steel.”

He said the project would significantly relieve the congestion that has plagued the area, facilitating efficient movement along the Boundary Road, Spintex Road and Burma Camp By-pass corridor.

He indicated that the progress was the product of strategic, focused leadership and the unwavering dedication of countless individuals.

He commended the Ministry of Roads and Highways and its Department of Urban Roads, contractors and consultants for bringing the project into reality.

SAFEGUARD

President Akufo-Addo called on the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the newly established National Roads Authority, Traditional rulers, Commuters and all Ghanaians to safeguard the asset and also urged motorists to exercise caution.

While advocating safety, he urged road users to respect road regulations and nurture a driving culture that reflects the aspirations of the nation.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The President mentioned that since assuming office in 2017, his administration has embarked on an ambitious infrastructure agenda.

He stated that the Flowerpot Interchange joins a list of completed projects that includes the Pokuase, Tema Motorway and Obetsebi Lamptey Interchanges.

These projects, according to the President, reflect strategic planning and a commitment to excellence.

“We have constructed more roads and interchanges than any other administration in Ghana’s history. From the northern savannahs to the southern coastline, we are building a new Ghana where infrastructure serves as a catalyst for development,” he said.

The President also highlighted ongoing projects such as the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange Phase II and other Interchanges in Nungua, Adjiringanor and Suame. These initiatives, he explained, demonstrate the government’s resolve to address the nation’s infrastructure deficits comprehensively.

The Flowerpot Interchange is 802 mm of dual carriageway with asphaltic concrete surfacing.

It also has a 140-meter ramp constructed from Shiashie onto the viaduct towards Airport Hills. 80m of ramp constructed from the viaduct onto the motorway towards Tema.

There is a new road through the old tunnel at East Legon, an additional 200m of road constructed to exit into Cantonments from the Giffard Road Interchange.

The Flowerpot roundabout and approaches have been redesigned with pedestrian walkways on each side of the flyover and streetlights, road markings and traffic signals.

The works were undertaken by Ms. China Railway No. 5 Engineering Gh Ltd. and supervised by Ms. Deoke Consult Ltd.

STANDARD

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso Boakye, was happy that the project had been completed to the highest standards and specifications, upheld by the Ministry.

He said that the Flowerpot project was part of a broader vision, as “other similar flagship projects aimed at improving the overall road network are also progressing steadily and will soon be ready for use by all Ghanaians.”

He cautioned against defacing the project with advertisements and called on the regulators to ensure strict compliance with the advertising regulations.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwetei Titus Glover, pleaded with residents not to surround the project with wooden structures.
