Atwima Nwabiagya South New Patriotic Party (NPP) First Vice Chairman, John Kwame Duodu, also known as Sir John, says former President John Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy, vis-a-vis all the discussions it has generated over the period, attests to the fact that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has no message for Ghanaians, ahead of 2024 elections.
He claims the NDC and its leadership are just using populist means to woo the Ghanaian voter.
According to him, former President John Mahama still believes that Ghanaians have short memories and can be easily deceived, hence his current campaign of empty promises and catchy slogans, including the policy proposition of a 24-hour economy.
But Chairman Duodu says this promise already exists in some sectors of the economy, including health and transport services, and that it is not and cannot be the game changer for the NDC.
He also mentioned that Ghana’s security services have long operated a 24-hour system in the country and queried which 24-hour economy Mr. Mahama is referring to.
“The truth is that he has nothing substantial to offer, except empty rhetoric”, he said.
Mr. Duodu noted that during his tenure of office, Mr. Mahama promised heaven, only to deliver hell, which goes to affirm that his 24-hour economy policy is an obvious indication that he has nothing new to offer, as he merely rehashes existing policies in an attempt to gain undeserved attention and credit from the unsuspecting masses.
Chairman Duodu, however, said Ghanaians are currently more discerning and can see through his empty promises now that they have experienced effective leadership under the Nana-Bawumia regime, in spite of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war and the global financial crisis.
He called on Ghanaians not to be swayed by any catchy slogans from John Mahama and his NDC cohorts, bearing in mind that the 24-hour campaign remains stagnant and lacks any real substance.
He cautioned Ghanaians to be wary of Mr. Mahama’s desperation and inclination to resort to his usual fabrications and empty promises to deceive the masses.
The constituency party executive said the opposition NDC, under the leadership of former president John Mahama, as flagbearer, has demonstrated that it has no campaign message, ahead of elections 2024.
He said Ghanaians ousted John Mahama from Office in 2016 because his presidency had plunged the country into severe poverty, misery and rampant corruption.
Sir John referred to Mahama’s infamous claim that he was not a magician to create jobs overnight, coupled with the emergence of “dumsor”, as a result of the incessant power outages that plagued the nation, through the NDC’s eight year tenure.
The NPP guru noted that under Mahama’s leadership, every sector of the economy was in disarray.
“His failures resulted in the cancellation of training allowances for training colleges and a significant freeze in public sector employment and promotions, while the private sector kept shrinking”, he stressed.
He added that, these were but a few of the reasons why Ghanaians showed former President Mahama the exit, and ushered in Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia to restore the Ghanaian economy.
Mr. Duodu, who also doubles as a patron of the Ashanti Regional TESCON, said despite the global crises, the NPP government has successfully resolved the power crisis, reduced unemployment significantly and reinstated training allowances for teachers and nurses, besides successfully offering free education to all Senior High school students nationwide.
He also referred to substantial growth and revitalisation of various sectors of the economy, including the industrial sector, to provide more opportunities and jobs for Ghanaians.
A prime example of this progress, he said, is the success of Eku juice, produced by the Ekumfi juice factory, under the Nana Akufo-Addo-Dr. Bawumia led NPP administration.
