VfL Osnabruck head coach Timo Schultz says he is delighted to work with Ghana international Daniel Kofi Kyereh again as the forward continues his journey back from a serious knee injury.
Kyereh joined Osnabruck on a free transfer after spending more than three years dealing with the effects of an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered while playing for SC Freiburg in February 2023.
The 30-year-old endured a lengthy rehabilitation period marked by setbacks before returning to competitive football with Freiburg II earlier this year.
Kyereh regained match fitness through seven Regionalliga appearances before completing his move to Osnabrück, where he will once again work under Schultz.
The pair previously collaborated at FC St. Pauli, where Kyereh enjoyed the most successful spell of his German professional career. In 62 second-tier appearances, he scored 21 goals and registered 20 assists.
Schultz believes the difficult period has tested Kyereh considerably but is pleased that the Ghanaian now has another opportunity to rebuild his career.
“The past few years were undoubtedly an enormous challenge for him. That makes me even happier that we are now working together again,” Schultz said.
The coach also highlighted Kyereh’s qualities as both a footballer and person, recalling the impact he made at St. Pauli.
“I know from our collaboration what special qualities Kofi possesses as a footballer and as a person. He was an absolute difference-maker at St. Pauli.”
Osnabruck have closely followed Kyereh’s physical development in recent months and believe he can soon join full team training.
The Ghanaian will wear the No. 7 shirt as he attempts to gradually return to his best level.
