Ghana midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana will return to Atalanta this summer after Cagliari decided against exercising the â¬11 million purchase option in his loan agreement.
The decision brings an end to Sulemana's second spell at Cagliari, where he had hoped to revive his career with regular first-team football. Instead, the 23-year-old found opportunities difficult to come by, making 20 appearances across all competitions and accumulating 965 minutes.
Although Cagliari considered approaching Atalanta to discuss a lower transfer fee, talks never progressed, and the club ultimately chose not to pursue a permanent transfer.
Sulemana will now report back to Atalanta, where he remains under contract until 2028. However, another move is expected this summer, with several clubs monitoring his situation as he looks for a fresh start and more consistent playing time.
The former Hellas Verona midfielder joined Atalanta in 2024 after an impressive campaign with Cagliari, who had signed him just a year earlier. Since arriving in Bergamo, he has struggled to establish himself and has spent time on loan at both Bologna and Cagliari.
Now back at Atalanta, Sulemana faces another important summer as he looks to secure a club where he can play regularly and rebuild his momentum.
