Asante Kotoko midfielder Hubert Gyau has delivered a defiant message ahead of Sunday's Super Clash against Hearts of Oak, insisting the Porcupine Warriors remain firmly in contention for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title despite trailing leaders Medeama SC by eight points.
Speaking passionately on Oyerpa FM, Gyau dismissed any suggestion that Kotoko's title hopes have faded, pointing to the 13 matches remaining and the opportunity Sunday presents to close the gap.
"There are still many matches to play, and our focus on the league title hasn't changed," Gyau declared. "If we beat Hearts of Oak on Sunday, we believe we'll still have a strong chance to win the league."
The midfielder, who has emerged as one of Kotoko's most consistent performers this season, also used the platform to rally the club's passionate fanbase ahead of the Baba Yara Stadium showdown.
"We need our supporters now more than ever," he urged. "Their energy, their voices, their beliefâit all matters. Sunday is not just another game. It's a chance to remind everyone what this team is capable of."
With Kotoko currently sitting fifth on 35 points, Sunday's clash against arch-rivals Heartsâwho are just one point ahead in fourthâcarries enormous weight beyond bragging rights. A win would not only close the gap on the league leaders but also inject vital momentum into a season that has, at times, threatened to derail.
Gyau's confidence reflects a dressing room still very much united in purpose.
"We know where we want to be at the end of the season," he added. "And we know what it takes to get there. Sunday is the first step."**
As Kotoko prepare to host Hearts in Matchday 22's most anticipated fixture, Gyau's words serve as both a promise and a challenge: the Porcupine Warriors are wounded, but they are far from finished.
