He will work with head coach James Francis and Richard Afoakwa as the Accra-based club eye a quick return to the topflight.
"Accra Lions FC welcome German Coach Johannes Pieper to Technical Team. We are pleased to announce the appointment of Johannes Pieper to the club’s coaching staff, following the departure of experienced coach Rainer Kraft. Pieper will work alongside head coach James Francis and Richard Afoakwa as part of the Lions’ technical leadership," stated the club, confirming Pieper's arrival.
Chief Executive Officer of Accra Lions, Nana Obiri Yeboah stated the appointment of Pieper is in line with the club's ultimate objective of developing players for the big stage.
“We are very pleased to welcome Johannes, a highly trained young coach, to join our two coaches with extensive experience in Ghana, James Francis and Richard Afoakwa. Our mission is to develop players at the highest level, and bringing in highly qualified coaches is essential to achieving that goal.”
This marks Johannes Pieper’s first professional assignment in Africa," said the CEO.
Meanwhile, Pieper previously served as a talent development coach with the German Football Association (DFB), where he gained valuable experience in nurturing young players.
