Hearts of Oak head coach Didi Dramani says his side must improve despite clinching the Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Peace Cup with a 2-0 win over Kpando Heart of Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Phobians secured back-to-back Homowo Cup triumphs against the same opposition, but Dramani stressed the need for higher standards as the club prepares for the new season.
“I think in my unveiling I spoke about creating clarity in our direction, keeping a consistent approach, and trying to stay very sustainable.
"And in doing this, you need to be very deliberate, you need to be consistent, and you need to be patient. I believe that there is a lot to achieve, and we will not stop trying.
"I try to impose my ideas and stay very focused on them. I try to demand and maintain a clear standard, where we need to work hard in order to reach that level."
Frank Duku, one of Hearts’ new signings, gave the hosts the lead in the 36th minute after connecting with an Ali Mohammed assist. Four minutes later, Hamza Issah doubled the advantage with a composed finish past the Lions’ goalkeeper.
Though the visitors showed promise, they failed to make their dominance in spells count, with Hearts’ goalkeeper Benjamin Asare producing timely saves. The second half saw a more balanced contest, but the Phobians’ defence held firm to seal the win.
Hearts of Oak now turn their attention to the GHALCA Top Four tournament, where they will face Kotoko, Bibiani Gold Stars, and Heart of Lions.
