NDC clears 30 aspirants for primaries in 12 constituencies in ER

Koforidua, July 29, GNA - the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has cleared 30 aspirants including; six females to contest in the upcoming primaries in 12 constituencies in the Eastern region.

They are; Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituency two, Ayensuano two, Upper West Akyem three, Abuakwa North one, Fanteakwa North three, Abirem two, Afram Plains North two, Upper-Manya Krobo three, Asuogyaman two, Lower Manya Krobo four and Suhum constituency three.

The six females also included; Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong, a former Eastern Regional Minister, contesting for Abirem, Nana Ama Yeboah, contesting the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Derrick Asifo-Bekoe in the Upper West Akyem constituency and Ms Betty Crosby, incumbent MP for Afram Plains North. 

Others are; Madam Amanda Okyere, Madam Mary Ago and madam Lucy Anim Koryo who are all contesting in the Suhum constituency to wrestle power from the NPP.

The aspirants were given the go ahead, following a two-day vetting exercise at the party’s regional office, however, vetting of aspirants from Yilo Krobo constituency was put on hold to enable the party to hear a petition raised against one of the aspirants.

Briefing the GNA, after the vetting, Mr William Dallas, NDC communication officer in the region, said the party was strategically focusing on some seats as part of an agenda to wrestle power from the NPP in the 2020 elections, hence the clearance of the aspirants in 12 constituencies to contest in the primaries slated for August 24, 2019.

He indicated that the margin recorded by their parliamentary candidates in the 2016 elections were very slim and therefore they were hopeful that with a good candidate and campaign strategy those seats would be taken by the NDC, mentioning Abuakwa North and Fanteakwa North constituencies.

Mr Dallas disclosed that, clearance was given to nine other constituencies in the region to open nominations and yet to be vetted candidates would be taken care of in the ensuing week, to decide on the dates for Asuogyaman, Lower Manya and Afram Plains North constituencies for opening of nominations.
