Accra, Aug. 19, GNA – In 2010, Mr William Newman built a nursery school in an abandoned warehouse next to his mother’s house. It was his way of catering to the children of market sellers and vendors, who loitered around the Juaben municipality while their folks were away.
Newill Academy, intended to be a nursery school, has now started primary classes with an increasing number of enrolments. The school works on a non-profit basis with students paying just enough to cover teachers’ salaries, transportation by the school bus and a daily meal.
To help accommodate the growing number of students, development of new school facilities began years ago but due to financial difficulties it didn’t get any further than building part of the base slab.
With the coordination of the Embassy of Hungary, a team of supporters and sponsors visited the construction site of a school in Koforidua on 16th August 2018 to make donation and contribute with physical help in the development.
After gaining the attention of a group of five Hungarian architects, the project is back on track. With the coordination of Mr Bogdán Funk the team revised the drawings and came up with a sustainable building’s plan, they are helping to complete the school building project with funds they’ve personally raised.
The construction project led by a Hungarian architect Mr Bogdán Funk is exemplary in many respects and offers a helping hand to the less prosperous children by involving local and international volunteers.
In addition, the Hungarian nationals are working closely with local management and assistance of the Economic Attaché of the Embassy of Hungary to garner any support they can to see the project to completion.
H.E. András Szabó, Ambassador of Hungary, headed the team of supporters and sponsors to the construction site and has not been idle to grab a shovel.
Because we believe in supporting community development endeavors we would like to contribute in any possible ways and be encouraging example to the community he added.
We were truly excited to be part of this important project, which is why we did more than donate the constructions, said Mr Kofi Asmah, the Co-chair of the Ghanaian - Hungarian Business Council.
Koala Supermarket sponsored the project second time this year with food and supplies announced Ms Gretha Slinningm, “We ‘rolled up our sleeves’ and spent a great part of the day working construction with the benevolent group of merry individuals.
“It was quite an amazing experience and we are very pleased to have contributed to the fulfillment of Mr William Newman’s aspiration to provide primary education to the less fortunate in the Juaben Municipality”.
This year’s sponsorship credits and special thanks are going for Ghanaian - Hungarian Business Council, Flexcon mb Ltd., Woimex Group, Kingdom Books and Stationary and AFS Ghana.
