The Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, Paul Twum-Barimah, has called on the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to apologise to the former Ministers of Finance and Health over allegations concerning a procurement deal for ambulance spare parts worth $34 million.
Mr Ablakwa has accused former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and former Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu of colluding with a private company to deceive the state.
Addressing journalists, the Dormaa East MP stated that the alleged amount in the scandal is inaccurate, hence the need for an apology to the individuals involved.
“If I calculate all the monies that my brother put out there, it sums up to $120 million, of which the minister approved. Indeed, in his submission, he said he approved $34 million on February 9, 2024, the minister approved only 10 million on February 9, and this is it to the Controller.
“It’s honourable to just call, go back, recall those documents and apologise to Hon Agyeman Manu and Hon Ken Ofori-Atta, knowing very well that I maybe thought I got the date rights, but the documentation was wrong. Probably, I will go back and get it right, and I don’t think it will hurt him,” the Member of Parliament for Dormaa East advised.
In a Facebook post on Monday, July 22, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, announced his intention to petition the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to investigate an alleged $34.9 million (GH?538 million) procurement deal for ambulance spare parts.
He accused the former finance minister of hastily approving the deal just five days before leaving office.
Ablakwa highlighted that the beneficiary company, Service Ghana Auto Group Limited, was incorporated on April 24, 2020, which raises questions about its capability to service ambulances that had been commissioned in 2019.
