The Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison, has supported breast cancer awareness in her constituency by partnering with the Ghana Free Zones Authority to conduct free health screening exercises within the Agona West enclave.
The exercise primarily involved screening women for free, and it included a sensitization program on how to self-check and detect breast lumps.
According to the Member of Parliament for the area, the annual event aims to screen a significant number of people in the constituency.
“As the Member of Parliament for Agona West, I deemed it wise to bring this awareness to my constituents. We conducted a similar exercise last year and will continue to do so in the coming years to ensure that women are screened for breast cancer. This morning, we educated women on how to perform self-examinations to detect any lumps in their breasts. I encourage all women to participate in the exercise,” Cynthia Morrison said.
The Member of Parliament also mentioned that they regularly screen for other health-related illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and hepatitis B, among others. This is done to keep the constituents in good health at all times.
The Ghana Free Zones Authority, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament, is conducting this exercise at three different locations within the Greater Accra Region.
Zeblim Alhassan, the Director of Administration, who was part of the team from the Ghana Free Zones Authority, explained that their involvement in the exercise is a way to give back to society while ensuring that breast cancer awareness reaches ordinary Ghanaians effectively.
“Our Chief Executive Officer, Ambassador Michael Ocquaye Junior, and the entire team have embraced this cause, and we are committed to supporting the campaign. We recognize that early detection is crucial, as delays can lead to more severe consequences. That’s why we are bringing this initiative to the doorstep of the people in Agona West,” Zeblim Alhassan, Director for the Ghana Free Zones Authority, stated.
