The Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, led a high-level delegation to meet with the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, in a move to elevate Ghana’s standing on the global football stage.
The meeting, which included the newly appointed CAF General Secretary Samson Adamu, served as a strategic dialogue on the nation’s readiness to host premier continental and international tournaments.
The engagement focused on three primary areas essential for securing future hosting rights, including infrastructure development – a critical look at upgrading pitches and modernising sporting facilities to meet rigorous international standards.
The organisational capacity of the country was also analysed to strengthen the logistics and management frameworks required for top-tier competitions, as well as national impact. Thus, leveraging the unifying power of football to drive development and national pride.
A call for modernisation
The CAF General Secretary, Samson Adamu, while expressing confidence in Ghana’s potential, issued a clear call to action regarding the country’s sports facilities.
He emphasised that high-quality infrastructure is the cornerstone for attracting global bids; hence, the need for Ghana to pay critical attention to that sector.
“Trust us any day and time because Ghana is home, and we expect your guidance to succeed,” Adamu stated, reaffirming CAF’s commitment to providing technical assistance for infrastructure projects.
The Sports Minister, on his part, welcomed the collaboration, acknowledging that while football is a powerful tool for unity, the country must address existing challenges to fully harness its potential.
To move forward, CAF has encouraged Ghana to develop a comprehensive, forward-looking strategic proposal to remain competitive in upcoming bidding cycles.
The meeting also took a sombre moment as Secretary Adamu expressed his condolences to Berekum Chelsea FC and the broader Ghanaian football community following the tragic loss of Dominic Frimpong.
In attendance were GFA General Secretary, Lawyer Prosper Harrison Addo; Manager at CAF Professional Football Management, Emmanuel Dasoberi; and Chief Director of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Mrs. Wilhemina Asamoah.
