McDan Aviation has vehemently denied owing the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) $3 million, refuting claims that led to the closure of its private jet terminal at Kotoka International Airport.
In an interview with Channel One News, McDan Group CEO Kweku Ampromfi clarified that a substantial portion of the alleged debt – approximately $2 million – is linked to a land parcel acquired from GACL, currently embroiled in a legal battle.
Ampromfi explained that the company has already settled a portion of the outstanding terminal charges and expressed optimism that GACL would soon reopen the private jet terminal. He emphasized that the $2 million in question stems from a land purchase near the Action Chapel area, where a third party has also claimed ownership and obtained documentation through the Lands Commission.
“We have been in constant dialogue with Ghana Airport Company regarding this matter,” Ampromfi stated. “Given the ongoing litigation, it is prudent to suspend payments related to this land until the legal issues are resolved. It simply does not make business sense to pay substantial sums while the ownership of the land remains contested.”
The closure of the McDan Aviation Private Jet Terminal by GACL followed the company’s failure to settle a debt exceeding $3 million, encompassing land leases, rentals, and accrued terminal charges.
This marks the second instance of the terminal’s closure, with a previous indefinite ban imposed in February 2022 due to operational breaches.
