Asante Kotoko’s forward, Kwame Opoku has admitted that leaving the Porcupine Warriors back in 2021 was a difficult decision for him.
Kotoko secured the return of the Ghanaian striker on a free deal this summer after spending more than two seasons away from the Ghana Premier League Giants.
The former Olympique Khouribga forward was key for Kotoko before joining the Algerian-based outfit USM Alger in 2021.
In a recent interview with the club’s media team, Opoku recalled the emotional turmoil he experienced on the eve of his departure.
“Leaving Kotoko was a hard decision for me. The morning before my departure I felt bad about leaving a great club like Kotoko. It wasn’t easy because I had grown attached to the team and the supporters who made me feel at home”he said.
Prior to the move to Algeria, the 25-year-old striker made a significant impact, scoring nine goals and establishing himself as a vital cog in the team. Despite, his exceptional displays, he departed Kotoko without securing any silverware – a situation he is resolute on rectifying on his return.
“I have to help the team as a whole to achieve its goals to win trophies and compete on the continent. I couldn’t win any trophy in my first stint but I believe this time I have a lot to offer,” he addrd.
Opoku, who was officially unveiled to the Kotoko faithful during the highly anticipated Super Clash at the Baba Yara Stadium, is anticipated to forge a potent partnership with in-form striker Albert Amoah in the Porcupine Warriors’ attack. This deadly duo is expected to propel the team towards securing their 26th Ghana Premier League title.
