Vinicius Junior has been crowned The Best FIFA Men’s Player for 2024 after an outstanding year with Real Madrid.
The Brazilian forward, who was controversially overlooked for the Ballon d’Or, finally received due recognition at FIFA’s awards ceremony.
Vinicius enjoyed a sensational 2023/24 season, leading Real Madrid to Champions League and La Liga triumphs. He contributed 24 goals across all competitions during the campaign and has already added 13 goals to his tally this season.
His standout moment came in the Champions League final, where he scored the second goal in Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund, sealing the club’s record-extending 15th European title.
This marks Vinicius’ first win of the FIFA award since its inception in 2016, and he is the only Brazilian to claim the prize to date. Neymar came closest previously, finishing third in 2017.
The shortlist featured ten nominees, including Manchester City’s Rodri and Erling Haaland, but neither could beat Vinicius to the top honour.
Real Madrid dominated the list with contenders such as Jude Bellingham, Toni Kroos, Dani Carvajal, Federico Valverde, and Kylian Mbappe.
Other notable winners on the night included Emiliano Martinez as Best Men’s Goalkeeper, Carlo Ancelotti as Best Men’s Coach, and Aitana Bonmati as Best Women’s Player. Alejandro Garnacho claimed the FIFA Puskás Award.
