The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has urged the country’s security and media personnel who cast their ballots in the special voting exercise on December 2, not to worry about the hitches experienced.
According to him, an NDC government under his leadership will change things for the better.
In a Facebook post after the special voting exercise on December 2, Mr Mahama wrote, “Our security and media personnel and staff of the Electoral Commission of Ghana have voted today. And I sincerely appreciate the overwhelming assurance my team and I received from you. Unfortunately, some of you could not vote because your details could not be traced in the Special Voters List. I urge you to be of good cheer because the new era to reset our country beckons. Thank you for opting for change.”
He bemoaned the fact that voting in the Eastern and Western regions could not be held as previously scheduled.
“Regrettably, Special Voting in Eastern and Western regions remain postponed to Thursday, December 5, 2024, adding more burden to your numerous socio-economic challenges,” John Mahama stated.
Background
The Special Voting exercise which forms part of the 2024 general elections took place on Monday, December 2 across 14 regions of Ghana.
The Eastern and Western Regions are however excluded from today’s exercise.
Explaining the reason for the exclusion of the Eastern and Western Regions, Chairperson of the Commission, Jean Mensa at a press briefing on Sunday, December 1, 2024 announced that the decision was taken after a single defaced ballot paper meant for the Presidential election for the Eastern Region was leaked out of the printing house.
