Ghanaian international Abdul Baba Rahman has expressed unwavering confidence in the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The left-back’s optimism stems from the country’s promising young players, who he believes possess the skill set and potential to propel the team to success.
In a recent interview with BBC Sports Africa, the 30-year-old defender highlighted that the team has the talent and potential to succeed in major tournaments despite recent setbacks.
“We [Ghana] have some really, really exciting young players in terms of what they can do on the ball and off the ball. We have good prospects too. I still have confidence in them.”
Baba Rahman, whose last World Cup appearance was Qatar’s 2022 showpiece, is optimistic about rejoining the Black Stars for future World Cup campaigns.
“Of course, I think about playing in another World Cup, and I think Ghana is on the right path to qualify,” he said.
Despite a dismal performance in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, the four-time African champions remain level on points with Comoros atop Group I in World Cup qualifiers after four matches, keeping their global stage aspirations alive.
Baba Rahman has been instrumental for PAOK this term in the Greece Super League and the Europa League ((scoring four goals in 14 appearances), and with his eyes set for a future Black Stars return, Otto Addo would be hoping to count on him soon.
The Black Stars will temporarily switch gears to AFCON qualifying, facing Angola and Niger in crucial matches, before refocusing on World Cup qualification in March 2025.
