Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey is confident that the Black Stars can secure a crucial victory against Mali in their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier on Thursday.
Despite a challenging year that included a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign and no wins in 2024, Partey believes the team has a solid strategy to turn their fortunes around.
Partey, who is set to captain the team in the absence of Andre Ayew, emphasised the importance of focusing on Ghana’s strengths while neutralising Mali’s key players.
“We have to do our best to stop Mali, stop their best players, and concentrate on the way we play to get the result we want,” Partey stated.
Though Partey has not played recently for the Black Stars, he brings a wealth of experience and understanding of the team’s system. His leadership will be crucial in guiding the younger players through this high-stakes match.
“I know I haven’t played recently for the team, but I have played a lot of matches for the Black Stars since my debut. I know the system the coach wants and I have the experience to help the young group of players to get the kind of result we want,” he added.
The match, set to take place at the Stade du 26 Mars at 19:00 GMT, is significant for the Black Stars, who currently sit fifth in Group I with just three points from their first two games.

A victory is crucial as they aim to secure a fifth World Cup appearance in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
Ghana’s recent form has been below their usual standards, having failed to advance past the group stage in the last two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. However, the team is determined to change their trajectory with a strong performance against Mali.
Ghanaian fans will be hoping that Partey’s leadership and the team’s renewed focus can lead to a much-needed victory and set the stage for a successful World Cup qualifying campaign.
