Members of the Locked-up Investment Holders’ Forum resumed their picketing at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) on Wednesday, accusing the government of failing to meet with them.
The group had previously suspended their protest after Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Stephen Amoah assured them their concerns would be addressed.
Dr. Adu Antwi, the Convenor of the group, stated, “We suspended our earlier picketing because the Minister or the Deputy Minister promised to meet with us. However, since the meeting is not coming on, there is no need to continue the suspension. We are resuming the picketing today and will be doing so every Wednesday until November.”
Several members of the forum expressed deep regret over investing their money in financial institutions.
A 68-year-old pensioner, Andrews Terkper, voiced his frustration to TV3, revealing that efforts to get the Bank of Ghana to help retrieve their locked-up funds have been unsuccessful.
Terkper, who worked for over 35 years with the Ghana Revenue Authority as a technical engineer, explained that he is now a diabetic patient in need of frequent medication but lacks the funds due to his investments being locked-up.
He now depends on his children for survival and deeply regrets investing his hard-earned money in these financial institutions.
Other investment holders in their late 60s and 70s shared similar sentiments, expressing their frustrations and regrets. Members of the group are demanding the release of their locked-up funds from NDK Financial Services and three other deposit-taking institutions.
They have been applying pressure on the Finance Ministry to ensure that the Bank of Ghana releases funds held in defunct financial companies. Financial analysts warn that the growing regret among investment holders may erode future generations’ confidence in investing with financial institutions.
