Ghana winger Kamaldeen Sulemana has helped secure Premier League promotion for Southampton following a narrow 1-0 victory over Leeds United in the Championship playoff final at Wembley.
This triumph sees the Saints join Ipswich Town and division champions Leicester City in ascending to England’s top flight.
Southampton, who faced a challenging season, returned to the Premier League at the first attempt. They achieved this milestone thanks to a decisive first-half goal from Adam Armstrong, ensuring their 1-0 win over Leeds in the playoff final.
Although Southampton were not in contention for automatic promotion for much of the season, they demonstrated remarkable resilience when it mattered most. After holding West Brom to a goalless draw at the Hawthorns in the first playoff semi-final, they secured their spot at Wembley with a dominant performance at St Mary’s, winning 3-1 thanks to three second-half goals.
As underdogs in the final at Wembley, Southampton once again found a way to triumph, setting up an exciting return to Premier League football.
This achievement marks Kamaldeen Sulemana as the second Ghanaian player to secure Premier League promotion this season, following Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s success with Leicester City. The 22-year-old winger made 25 appearances and provided three assists for the Saints throughout the campaign.
Other Ghanaian players expected to feature in the Premier League next season include Mohammed Kudus, Thomas Teye Partey, Jordan Ayew, Jeffrey Schlupp, Antoine Semenyo , and Tariq Lamptey.
This promotion also means that, apart from Leeds United, all teams relegated from the Premier League last season—Leicester City, and Southampton—have regained their top-flight status.
