Ghana star Mohammed Kudus will soon be playing under new West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui, whose appointment has been confirmed by the club.
The 57-year-old Spaniard, who agreed to terms with the Hammers earlier this month, succeeds David Moyes and has signed a two-year deal with an option for a third.
Lopetegui, who has been out of a managerial role since leaving Wolves in August, expressed his enthusiasm about joining West Ham.
“I feel very happy, first of all, to be able to be part of the future of this big club,” he said. “We had other opportunities, but I am very happy that West Ham chose me because I chose West Ham too, so we are really happy about this.”
West Ham had previously confirmed that Moyes, who took over for his second spell at the club in December 2019 and won the Europa Conference League in 2023, would be leaving at the end of the season. The 61-year-old Scot faced increasing pressure following a poor run of results, which saw the Hammers finish ninth in the Premier League and miss out on a fourth successive season in Europe.
Lopetegui will officially begin his role on July 1, coinciding with the start of pre-season.
Mohammed Kudus has been a key figure under David Moyes, who played a significant role in the Ghanaian’s integration into the squad last summer.
While Moyes deployed Kudus primarily on the flank, it remains to be seen where the 23-year-old will fit under Lopetegui’s tactics.
Kudus scored 14 goals in the just-ended season, including eight goals and six assists in the Premier League, underscoring his value to West Ham United.

The former Ajax player is expected to play a crucial role under Lopetegui, having ended the season in style with a spectacular overhead kick goal against eventual champions Manchester City.
