Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has announced his departure from the club after a remarkable 12-year stint.
The England international is expected to join Al-Ettifaq in a deal worth £12 million plus potential add-ons, joining forces with Liverpool legend Steven Gerard, who is the Saudi Arabian side’s head coach.
Taking to his Instagram account, Henderson penned an emotional message, assuring fans that he will forever remain a devoted “Red” until the end of his days. During his illustrious career at Liverpool, Henderson served as the team’s captain and played a pivotal role in leading them to their first Premier League title in 30 years in 2020.
Over the years, Henderson played an instrumental part in Liverpool’s success, also lifting trophies such as the Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup during his time on Merseyside.
Reflecting on his departure, Henderson expressed that leaving his boyhood club Sunderland after more than a decade was challenging, but when Liverpool came calling, he couldn’t refuse the opportunity. Throughout his heartfelt video filmed at Anfield, Henderson praised the incredible support of the fans, hailing them as the best in the world.
However, he did not address his move to Saudi Arabia directly.
