Kofi Okyer Darko, better known as K.O.D has launched fresh attacks at highlife Veteran Gyedu-Blay Ambolley for calling him a “shallow-minded young boy”
Gyedu-Blay Ambolley in an interview with Andy Dosty on Adom TV addressed the “disrespectful” comments made by KOD on his claims that the VGMA was a curse to highlife as a genre.
Ambolley who did not take lightly the words of the radio host said “I see Okyere Darko as a child. He is shallow-minded, the reason why he said those things.”
The fashion designer and DJ who had announced that he was not going to engage in a verbal tussle with the old vanguard rescinded his decision and divulged new information on how he supported the 76-year-old’s career for 30 years.
“Lee [KOD], the small boy supported him for almost 30 years of his career & made sure he was not left out when he facilitated the legend’s Glo signed up when they came to GH (he shouldn’t forget his insincerity with how he handled himself in that space). I always knew this day would come somehow… That’s how I know him; a charlatan,” he disclosed.
Comparing his records with the Ghanaian rap originator, the broadcaster also mentioned that he had worked assiduously as a stakeholder both as VGMA board member and in his personal capacity to grow the highlife genre in Ghana
“Lee won’t sit on the VGMA Board (in & out for over 20 years) & allow Hilife to die when he’s played, produced & managed some of the best hilife songs & artistes for almost 30 years”
Launching fresh attacks at Mr Ambolley who is preparing to go on tour, KOD described him as ungrateful. Adding that seasoned personalities who sat on the VGMA board will not look on for the genre to suffer decline.
“Celebrated Hilife musicians like Amandzeba, Bessa Simons, Okraku Mante, Andy Dosty, Diana Hopeson, Kiki Banson & many great music talents & proponents won’t sit/allow VGMA to be a curse to Hilife when they sit on the Board”
“It will take only an ungrateful artiste to ever suggest VGMA is a curse to Hilife,” he wrote.
Further debunking the assertion that only older people had wisdom, the multiple award-winning host said “Wisdom is not a preserve of old age & grey hair. There are older men in communities/families but children often rise to lead,” He added.
In 2009, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley along with a list of Ghanaian celebrities including Reggie Rockstone, Manuel Agogo Junior, Pat Thomas, Amakye Dede, Edem, Asem, Tinny, Kwabena Kwabena, Irene Logan, Shariffa Gunu and Wutah, Van Vicker, Nadia Buari, Jackie Appiah, and Paapa Yankson were outdoored as ambassadors for Telecommunication network, Glo when they launched in Ghana
