The country’s largest buyer of cocoa of cocoa beans, PBC Limited, has presented a cheque in the amount of GH¢50,000 to support the 28th National Farmers’ Day celebration. Presenting the cheque, the Head of Corporate Affairs PBC Limited, Nanette Aryee, recognised the importance of the farmer in PBC’s operation and the socio-economic development of the country, and pledged the company’s continuous support to the event. The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Kwesi Ahwoi who received the cheque, expressed his sincerest gratitude to PBC Limited for supporting the National Farmers’ Day celebration over the years and congratulated the company for emerging as overall best in the Ghana club 100 rankings.
The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Mr. George Blankson, has been elected President of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators (CATA) at the Association’s 33rd Technical Conference in Malta. Mr. Blankson comes into the position with a wealth of experience in revenue administration spanning a period of 26 years, during which he held positions as Lead Consultant and Project Manager for Crown Agents on the National Revenue Authority Modernisation Project in Freetown, Sierra Leone; Deputy Commissioner (Operations) of the VAT Service; and Assistant Commissioner in the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS). Other officers elected to steer the affairs of CATA for the three years spanning 2012-2015 include Dr. Mold Shukor Malifar of Malaysia as Chairman, and Mr. Peter Steeds of the United Kingdom as Vice-Chairman. CATA is an inter-governmental tax organisation whose mission is to provide members with a forum to discuss practical tax administration issues, provide training to suit the needs of member-states, and also promote cooperation between tax administrations in the Commonwealth. Consisting of 49 countries, it is the largest association of tax administrators in the world with membership from the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, Nigeria, Malaysia and Commonwealth countries from all five continents. Over the past 34 years, CATA has been instrumental in promoting the modernisation of tax administration and adopting efficiency-enhancing tax policies, procedures and processes.
