Two Fulani nomads were killed, including one who sought refuge at the police station, last night at Yendi in a fatal rampage by some youth over the murder of a native cattle merchant.
The merchant, Ibrahim Sanda was killed at a village called Ku’ga at about 6pm when he went up to some herdsmen to purchase a cow after receiving a call from them.
He was later found dead with dozens of cutlass injuries and his money taken away by his trade partners. It wasn’t clear what transpired before Ibrahim was hacked down but the youth believed the killers were Fulani herdsmen.
They suspected the herdsmen only tricked Ibrahim to steal and killed him. The youth then mobilised and came out hunting for Fulanis in the town to exact revenge.
Two were finally killed in the hunt. One who was just up and about in the town, came face to face with the angry youth and fled into the police station after he sensed danger, but he was murdered at the station, a native who witnessed the Sunday deadly attack, Mr. Aziz told Ultimate News.
Another was also murdered by the youth in front of the office of the Ghana Commercial Bank branch in the municipal capital.
Police fired shots to disperse the youth and no arrest made so far, the source added.
Body of the merchant has since been taken to the Tamale Teaching hospital but the two Fulanis were yet to be conveyed.
