The Kadjebi District Assembly has adopted a holistic approach to addressing inadequate school infrastructure in the district as part of efforts to make education more attractive and accessible to children.
The initiative aligns with the government’s strategy to ensure that children of school-going age are not denied education due to their geographical location.
The Kadjebi District Chief Executive (DCE), Dr Sam Suraj Issah, disclosed this at a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a three-unit classroom block at Yadzo in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region on Wednesday.
He said the project, which would be funded through the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), was expected to be completed within six months.
Dr Issah stressed that the development of every community depended largely on quality education, adding that the assembly was committed to improving school infrastructure to create a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.
He explained that the assembly had identified several communities for infrastructure improvement, describing the move as critical to enhancing contact hours and improving learning outcomes.
“The government remains committed to improving education across the country, and the Kadjebi District Assembly has initiated a number of programmes to ensure success,” he stated.
The DCE urged residents to show greater interest in government policies and programmes and to cooperate with the assembly in their implementation for the benefit of the people.
He also called on the people of Yadzo to support Multi Project Electrical Engineering Services Limited, the contractor handling the project, to enable it to complete the work within the stipulated period.
Dr Issah further encouraged the community to report any misconduct by the contractor to the assembly for the necessary action, while stressing the need for residents to take ownership of the project to ensure value for money.
Earlier, the DCE inaugurated a three-unit classroom block for the Koamba Primary School, also funded under the DACF, and appealed to the community, pupils, and school authorities to cultivate a strong maintenance culture to prolong the lifespan of the facility.
The Chief of Yadzo, Togbe Agbala Anthony, thanked the government for the project, saying it would significantly promote education in the area.
He assured the assembly of the community’s readiness to support government development initiatives.
