Former Black Queens coach, Nora Hauptle, has revealed that letting go of her project with the team was not an easy decision after her contract expired.
According to the Swiss tactician, unresolved issues with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) during contract renewal discussions influenced her decision to step away.
Nora, who successfully led Ghana’s national women’s football team to qualify for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, explained in an interview with Swiss media outlet 20 Minutes that critical elements needed for her success were missing in the proposed contract.
It wasn’t easy to give up the project. My contract was running out at the end of the year, and we had discussions. But there were a few pieces of the puzzle that were not clear, which were relevant to my success. I can’t just make compromises, but nothing happened. We are parting on good terms and with a lot of respect for each other.
Nora’s departure highlights ongoing challenges in Ghanaian football. Under her guidance, the Black Queens managed to secure qualification for the WAFCON after missing out on the last two editions, a feat that many hoped would mark a turning point for the team.
GFA set to appoint new Black Queens coach
Following Nora Hauptle’s decision to decline the GFA’s offer and instead sign a three-year contract with Zambia's Copper Queens, the association has begun the search for a new coach to lead the Black Queens.
The GFA is now tasked with ensuring the next appointment will help sustain the momentum and address the systemic issues that hinder the progress of Ghana’s football.
