10 Heads of State to attend Mahama's swearing-in ceremony on January 7

The spokesperson for the John Dramani Mahama Transition Team, Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced that ten heads of state are confirmed to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, 7th January 2025.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Mr Ofosu outlined the high-profile nature of the event, which will also host two vice presidents, a speaker of parliament, two former presidents, and representatives from international organisations such as the Commonwealth and the African Development Bank.

Ceremony Details

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Black Star Square and will include a parliamentary session relocated to the venue for the occasion. Mr Ofosu emphasised the meticulous preparations underway, stating, “Members of the public and all invited guests are reminded that they cannot and will not be allowed to enter the swearing-in area without presenting their invitation cards.”

Guests are expected to be seated by 08:30 hours, followed by Members of Parliament and other attendees. The Speaker of Parliament will accompany the President-elect and Vice President-elect into the Chamber, where the swearing-in proceedings are scheduled to commence at 11:00 hours.

Traffic and Security Measures

To ensure smooth organisation, specific roads in Accra will be temporarily closed. These include:

• 28th February Road from CEPS Headquarters to Castle Road Junction

• Castle Road from AU Circle to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light

• Starlet 91 Road

Traffic will be redirected from La, Labone, and Osu towards the Central Business District through Salem Avenue Traffic Light and Oxford Street. Traffic from John Evans Atta Mills High Street heading towards Black Star Square will also be rerouted.

Mr Ofosu highlighted designated parking areas, including:

• Back of the Independence Arch

• Forecourt of the State House

• Access Bank Car Park

• Osu Cemetery Car Park

• Ministries Area

• Ministry of Food and Agriculture Car Park

• Marine Drive Football Park

• Efua Sutherland Car Park

“No vehicle would be allowed to park at unauthorised places or allowed to drive through any of the roadblocks,” Mr Ofosu stated.
