Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi has categorically denied allegations suggesting he is spiritually responsible for the decline of the Black Stars.
These accusations stem from controversial remarks made by Prophet Samuel Agyarkwah, popularly known as Akwankyer? Papa, as reported by Ghanasportspage.
The prophet alleged that Ghanaian football is under a spiritual attack orchestrated by a former GFA president. He claimed that the ex-leader had spiritually “tied” Ghana football in the Northern Region to prevent his successors from excelling, ensuring he remains a significant figure in Ghana’s football history.
Speaking in an interview with Mothers FM/TV, Prophet Agyarkwah reportedly said:
The truth is that Ghanaian football is under a spiritual attack, which has caused its downfall. Ghana football is being tied in the Northern Region by a popular ex-GFA president. The reason is to block his successors from shining so that he will be remembered forever.
In response, Nyantakyi dismissed the claims as baseless during an interview with JoySports. He emphasised that the GFA belongs to all Ghanaians and described the allegations as unreasonable.
The Black Stars do not belong to me; the team belongs to Ghanaians. How can I engage in spiritual machinations for the team to fail? I was the president of Ghana football, not just the Black Stars. In 2006, when we launched our football policy in Cape Coast, it was a comprehensive plan for the development of Ghanaian football as a whole.
He recounted his administration’s efforts to promote the growth of football across all levels
We consistently revised and implemented policies for governance, marketing, youth football, women's football, player and referee development, among others. Was that about the Black Stars alone? Even as recently as October 2017, we held a three-day summit in Cape Coast to engage stakeholders, looking holistically at how best to administer football in the interest of all Ghanaians. Was that solely about the Black Stars?
Nyantakyi also criticised individuals who exploit football for personal gain under the guise of prophecy.
Many of these so-called prophets seek fame by riding on the popularity of football. They peddle hogwash to capture public attention
