The second edition of the Whitray Junior Open Championship has been slated for April 15-20, 2024 at the National Tennis Centre at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The week-long event has generated a lot of interest among junior tennis players across the country.
The first edition was held at the Ghana Tennis Club in Adabraka, a suburb of Accra, with Joseph Tetteh and his sister, Grace Tetteh, winning the U-10 boys and girls events, respectively.
Geogette Nortey and Jeff Frimpong Aaron won the U-12 boys and girls category while Aaron Atitsotgbe won the U-14.
The Tournament Director, Mr Orimoloye Abiodun Oluwamuyiwa, told the Times Sports, the competition for children aged 10–16 years and wheelchair tennis players were part of the efforts to secure the future of Ghana tennis.
According to him, more should be expected from this year’s Open Championship where scholarships would be given to deserving winners on the final day and prize money for the wheelchair tennis players.
He added that registration has been opened where junior players and wheelchair tennis players are expected to register.
Registration fee is GH¢10 and interested players can contact Tournament Referee, Yakubu Abubakari-Lea, and Assistant Eric Tetteh Nartey at the venue for their registration forms.
