In 2021, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, launched the ‘Let’s Make Accra Work’ campaign. This was a non-partisan agenda focused on ensuring discipline, sanity and socio-economic development of the region. The campaign enjoyed support from the media, corporate bodies, government and residents of the region.
With President Akufo-Addo’s announcement of a reshuffle of his ministers on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, the outgoing Greater Accra Regional Minister has expressed his gratitude to the media fraternity for supporting his ‘Let’s Make Accra Work’ campaign. Mr. Quartey has now been appointed as the Minister for the Interior and would be replaced by Daniel Titus Glover, former Tema East Member of Parliament.
Speaking in an interview on Citi FM, Mr. Quartey also thanked the presidency for the trust reposed in him and to the media fraternity for working hand in hand with him to assist in prosecuting the agenda of making Greater Accra work again.
The Chronicle takes this opportunity to commend Mr. Quartey for his dedicated service as the Greater Accra Regional Minister. He was exceptional in improving the region through initiatives like ‘Let’s Make Accra Work’ campaign, which has left a significant impact on the region.
Since its inception in 2021, the ‘Let’s Make Accra Work’ campaign has been instrumental in addressing critical issues facing the Greater Accra Region. It brought a ray of hope for tackling the many issues the region was facing in the areas of infrastructure, sanitation and urban development.
As Mr. Daniel Titus Glover assumes the role of Greater Accra Regional Minister, it is imperative that he embraces the vision and objectives of the ‘Let’s Make Accra Work’ campaign and ensure its continuity. While transitions in leadership are inevitable, the essence of governance lies in building upon the foundations laid by predecessors and advancing towards a common goal of development and progress.
The campaign resonated with the people of the Greater Accra Region, offering solutions to pressing issues such as waste management, traffic congestion and housing challenges. It has been a collaborative effort with the media fraternity playing a pivotal role in disseminating information and rallying public support behind it. It would, therefore, be in the right direction for Mr. Daniel Titus Glover to continue, if he gets the blessing of the parliamentary Appointments Committee.
As Mr. Glover assumes his new role if passed by the Appointments Committee, we urge him to prioritize the continuation of the ‘Let’s Make Accra Work’ campaign and ensure that the momentum built under Mr. Quartey’s leadership is sustained. This entails honoring existing commitments, implementing ongoing projects and initiating new initiatives that align with the campaign’s objectives.
The success of the ‘Let’s Make Accra Work’ campaign hinges on collective action and inclusive governance, where the voices and concerns of all stakeholders are heard and addressed.
