Samartex and Heart of Lions meet at the Nsenkyire Sports Stadium in Samreboi on Sunday in a key top-four encounter, with both sides eager to bounce back from defeats in their previous outings.
Samartex were beaten by Basake Holy Stars last time out, while Heart of Lions saw their impressive home run come to an end following a loss to Aduana FC, a result that marked their second consecutive defeat.
The pressure is mounting on Heart of Lions coach Bashir Hayford, as another setback would extend his side’s poor run to three defeats in a row. Lions have struggled for consistency this season, a factor that has left them four points off the top despite having opportunities to lead the table and build a cushion at the summit.
Their recent problems have been most evident in attack, with no goal scored in their last three matches. Defensively, concerns remain as well. They have conceded 10 goals in 14 league games, the highest tally among the teams currently involved in the title race, and Hayford will be keen to see an improvement at the back.
Samartex, meanwhile, have settled into mid-table after their title-winning campaign two seasons ago. A victory on Sunday could lift them into the top four, but it will require a committed performance and sharp focus from the opening whistle.
The two sides have faced each other four times since December 2023. Samartex have recorded one win, while Heart of Lions have claimed three victories. Their most recent meeting, on May 4, 2025, ended in a 2-1 win for Heart of Lions. Across those four matches, Samartex have scored three goals, with Lions netting five, giving the visitors the edge in recent head-to-head meetings.
Samartex currently sit seventh on the table with 21 points from 14 matches, while Heart of Lions occupy fifth place with 23 points from the same number of games.
