South Africa coach Hugo Broos is confident his players will be ready for their opening match against Angola at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), after overcoming Ghana in a pre-tournament friendly on Tuesday.
The Bafana Bafana hosted Ghana’s CHAN team in a final warm-up game today at Dobsonville Stadium.
In a close contest where the hosts struggled to play their game, a solitary strike from Sipho Mbule handed the Bafana Bafana a narrow 1-0 victory.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Hugo Broos admitted that South Africa didn’t play their best match.
“We didn’t really play a very good game, there was not so much movement in the team what we are used to, the passing was not good.
“So we still need a little bit work to be on the highest level for next week,” Broos told SABC 2.
The Bafana Bafana boss continued, “I’m certain that plays in the heads also that next week AFCON starts. The players are a little bit afraid to get injured or whatever. But again I expected a little bit more from my team today, a better game but that can happen.”
Despite his concerns, Hugo Broos is optimistic that the Bafana Bafana will be ready for their opening clash against Angola at AFCON 2025 on December 22.
“I remember two years ago, it was Lesotho in the last game we played, so that gives us hope. I’m sure the boys will be ready for Angola,” Broos said.
