Ghanaian artist King Promise has disclosed that English-born players of Ghanaian descent, Eddie Nketiah and Callum Hudson-Odoi, were keen on representing the Black Stars for several years.
The musician is a friend of the two, especially Odoi, whom he has been seen spending time with in Accra when he returns to Ghana for holidays.
Promise said he had encouraged them to switch national allegiance well before Ghana secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“All my boys who play in England, I have asked them to play for Ghana. I have been trying. Eddie Nketiah loves Ghana and actually wants to play, and honestly, I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this, but Callum would like to play as well. This is not just because of the World Cup; this was before,” Promise told KSS.
“I can only have conversations on the level of friendship. When it goes beyond that and the intricacies come in, I am not part of it.”
Reports had suggested that Nketiah and Hudson-Odoi opted for Ghana only after the team qualified for the World Cup.
This claim sparked debate among fans and analysts, who argued that the players should not be included in the tournament squad, as they had not contributed to the World Cup qualifiers.
