Johnson Asiedu Nketiah
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters have issued a strong challenge to Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, also known as General Mosquito, the National Chairman of the party.
They are daring him to visit the Northern Region and see if he would be able to leave in peace amidst ongoing factional tensions.
The incident arose after General Mosquito was reportedly chased out of the Global Dream Hotel in Tamale due to the escalating conflict between former President John Dramani Mahama and former Majority Leader Haruna Iddrisu factions in the area.
Agitated youth confronted General Mosquito, pouring soup on him as a symbolic act of protest.
The temperature of the soup remains unknown as investigations are ongoing.
The attack has resulted in NDC supporters declaring Shamima Yakubu, the badly assaulted Regional Treasurer and an ally of the former President Mahama, as persona non grata in the Northern Region.
This declaration comes as a shock to many, as it suggests a disturbing trend of supporting violence against women within the party.
In a separate incident, NDC supporters invaded the regional office, demanding the immediate release of the arrested Vice Chairman. The Vice Chairman was arrested due to his involvement in the brutal assault on the Regional Treasurer, Hajia Shamima Yakubu.
To further exacerbate the situation, the Regional Secretary, Salam Gulbia, was also targeted in an attack by supporters of Chairman Azorka.
During the attack, Secretary Gulbia, who was in the middle of his meal, had his food forcibly taken away.
Despite these disturbing events, Salam Gulbia displayed impressive restraint and refrained from responding to the violence, opting to prioritize defusing tensions within the party.
The growing pattern of political violence within the NDC has raised concerns among supporters who are demanding justice and an end to these acts of aggression.
The NDC leadership is urged to take swift and decisive action to restore peace and unity within the party, and to condemn any form of violence against individuals, particularly women.
As investigations continue, the people of the Northern Region anxiously await a resolution to these conflicts, hoping for a return to peaceful and inclusive politics.
