The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has made a strategic appointment of five key technical staff members to bolster the Black Stars’ backroom team significantly.
This targeted enhancement is designed to maximise the squad’s preparation, performance and competitiveness at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be hosted across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
They will provide Head Coach, Otto Addo, with specialised expertise in scouting, conditioning and tactical analysis.
The GFA has appointed two new assistant coaches, joined by specialised experts in performance analysis, physiotherapy and physical conditioning, creating a comprehensive support system for Head Coach Otto Addo to strengthen the coaching and analytical structure.
French tactician Alain Ravera has been named as an Assistant Coach, bringing significant international experience, having previously served as an assistant coach with the Guinea National Team and top French side AS Monaco.
He is joined in that role by Black Queens Head Coach Kim Lars Björkegren. The Swedish guided the Black Queens to a bronze-medal finish at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and has successfully led the team to qualification for the 2026 WAFCON, which he will also oversee.
In the position of Video Analyst, José Daniel Martínez Alfonso, who is currently with North America Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Atlanta FC, has been given the critical role. The Spanish analyst is appointed to lead advanced match preparation, opposition scoutin, and performance analysis.
The Medical Department has also been reinforced with the return of Carlos Lozano Romero as Team Physiotherapist. Lozano previously worked with the Black Stars during Ghana’s 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign in Qatar, and his reappointment ensures continuity, familiarity with the team, environment and proven professionalism.
Completing the technical additions is British-born Ghanaian performance specialist Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi, who has been appointed Performance Coach. A long-serving support figure when called upon, his role will focus on physical conditioning, player optimisation and overall performance enhancement throughout the World Cup campaign.
According to the FA, the appointments are strictly for the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign and are in line with long-standing GFA tradition, which sees the Black Stars’ technical team augmented whenever Ghana qualifies for major tournaments.
By surrounding Otto Addo with this diverse group of experts, the GFA aims to optimise every facet of the team’s preparation, from medical recovery to tactical scouting, as the Black Stars look to surpass their previous World Cup records.
