The Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) says individual companies in Turkey have shown interest in buying honey from Ghana, but the volumes cannot be met now.
Mr. Stephen Normeshie, General Manager, GEPA, said the Authority will organise the honey producers to train them on group marketing, thus enabling them to meet the demands of these companies.
Mr. Normeshie, who was speaking on the sidelines of the 83rd Izmir International Fair in Turkey, said the Authority will also meet the producers to know their production challenges and see how to support them in that regard.
The Izmir Fair is aimed at offering businesses and investors across the globe the opportunity to market their products to the international business community, especially those from Asian and European countries.
It is one of the oldest trade shows in Turkey and is considered the cradle of Turkey’s fair and exhibition industry. It is characterised as being a multi-product exhibition and therefore displays a wide range of products and services.
He said the Authority is also in discussions with some big Turkish companies to invest in Ghanaian businesses since some have shown interest in exporting pineapples to Turkey.
He said the Authority is encouraging companies to come in and process the fresh sugarloaf and a variety of pineapples for export to Turkey.
Mr. Charles Folikumah, Director of Exports, Ministry of Trade and Industry, called on the Export Development Investment Fund to support these honey producers financially and thus enable them to meet the demands from these companies.
GEPA has facilitated the participation of 14 Ghanaian exhibitors in the Izmir International Fair, which runs from August 29 to September 2.
The companies were drawn from the pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and cosmetics industries.
The participating companies include Alagie and Fati's Company, Daysah Ventures, Pure Company, and Sea-Freighted Pineapple Exporters (SPEG) -- the umbrella-body of pineapple exporters in the country.
The rest are Krypton Global, HPW Fresh and Dry, Medi-Moses Clinic and Herbal Centre, Alpha Samuelson Enterprise, Paku Enterprise, Yenok Limited, Chocho Industries and Veronica Ayando Enterprise.
These companies will be showcasing their products and services to the international business community.
