Former Black Queens head coach Nora Hauptle has disclosed her reasons for stepping down after the expiration of her contract with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in December 2024.
The Swiss tactician, who successfully led Ghana’s national women’s football team to qualify for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, revealed that unresolved issues during contract renewal negotiations influenced her decision.
In an interview with Swiss media outlet 20 Minutes, Hauptle explained, “It wasn’t easy to give up the project. My contract was running out at the end of the year, and we had discussions. But there were a few pieces of the puzzle that were not clear, which were relevant to my success. I can’t just make compromises, but nothing happened. We are parting on good terms and with a lot of respect for each other.”
Hauptle’s tenure marked a resurgence for the Black Queens, who had failed to qualify for the Women’s AFCON since 2018.
She has since taken on the role of head coach for Zambia’s Copper Queens, who will compete in Group A of this year’s WAFCON alongside host nation Morocco, Senegal, and DR Congo. Hauptle expressed optimism about her new challenge, aiming to build on her success with Ghana.
