Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Nartey Ogum revealed that he expected Hearts of Oak defender Kelvin Osei Asibey to attempt something risky during their matchday 13 clash in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.
Kotoko secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Hearts of Oak on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium, with Albert Amoah’s stunning 95th-minute goal settling the intense encounter.
Amoah capitalized on a defensive miscommunication between Asibey and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare to deliver the decisive moment.
Speaking after the game, Ogum shared his tactical approach, explaining that he instructed Amoah to maintain pressure on Asibey, anticipating an error.
“We all know Asibey is a fantastic player, very talented, but he sometimes overdoes things,” Ogum said. “I told Albert to keep pressing him because we expected he might try something extravagant and lose possession.”
The win moves Kotoko to 6th place on the league table with 21 points, just three points behind league leaders Heart of Lions, who have 24 points after 13 games.
Albert Amoah, who joined Kotoko from Division One League side Great Olympics, continues to shine as the team’s top scorer with seven goals this season.
With the Porcupines back in form and capitalizing on their home advantage at Baba Yara Stadium, they are well-positioned to challenge for the league title.
